PJ Hornberger Folk Art Gallery

Finished ‘Sale Day’!!!!  Just painted the edge,  so I’ll photograph it later today.  Then I’ll show it off.  It is soooo busy.  So much going on in this painting.  I’m very happy with it.

Yeah!!!!  We’re finishing up on the Gallery here in Carmine.  I cannot wait to show you.  I’ll be posting photos here,  plus probably do a video on YouTube.  We’re going to be

OPEN  OPEN OPEN

on Mother’s Day,  which is tomorrow.  We’ll be open as quick as possible.  Normally on Sunday we’ll be open at noon,  but I’m looking forward to turning that open sign around… I don’t think I can wait that long.  LOL

Well, I said I never ever would…. and I lied.  I’m on Twitter.  Or is it Tweeter… can’t get that straight.  🙂   Nobody’s following me.  Not sure where I’d go,  but it seems like someone would want to know.  Maybe if I made up stuff it would be more interesting…. I could just make up big fat lies like I rarely do after a very few margaritas….  hmmm….

Are we havin’ fun yet?

For the last couple of days I’ve been thinking about this… so here goes.  When you do crafts or art, you should be having fun,  not trying to do perfection.  There is no such of a thing.  So get over it.  If you’re happy with it,  you are a success.

I don’t recommend asking for critiques.  They’re going to tell you how THEY would do it.  Do you want to do your art or theirs?  Stop and think about it.  Do you really want yours to look like theirs?  If that’s the case, ya shoulda just bought one of theirs.  LOL  Remember, this is my opinion… it’s worth what you paid for it.

If you haven’t tried on your own,  do you really think someone can teach you how to do it perfect?  Give it a try.  Life will not end as you know it because it’s not perfect. LOL

My Mother taught me fear of failure. I had to get it right first time out.  So I didn’t try.  My husband gave me the gift of you can throw it away and do another one. LOL  That was the best present I have ever gotten from anyone. If I truly don’t like  it, I can throw it away.  No big deal.  I did not fail.  It was a learning curve.  I can not do my very best each and every time.  No one can.  And that’s OK.

Give yourself that permission.  When you do,  it feels so good.  Big weight off your shoulders.  I wrote around the door in my studio… Are we havin’ fun yet?   Cause if I’m not,  I don’t wanna play any more. 😉

I’ve said most of these things in videos on my YouTube channel.  This is my first try at writing them down.  I hope it makes sense to you.  It’s a present that I want to pass along.  thanks,  PJ

my thoughts on….

Good morning… well it is for me.  I think I have my days and nights confused.  If I read one more article on how to get some sleep… well, picture me running down the middle of the street screaming to the top of my lungs. LOL  I’m going to write the next article…

Someone said they couldn’t find the comment spot.  It’s in the black box thingy at the bottom.  Says:  Comments.  Just click that on and you can tell me everything…. or just say Hi!  I love comments.  All bloggers do.  Some people just don’t like leaving comments. Worries them as to what to say.  When I can’t think of something… happens rarely…. I just say… I’ll be back.  LOL

Videos on YouTube…  Yes I  know I haven’t been making very many.  I want to do more.  But teaching or showing how to do something in less than 10 minutes is almost impossible for me.  I get tickled… have to giggle for at least a minute or two… then try to convince you that you can too do this whatever… then I want to tell a story…  Ya see the problem?  I just need more time. 🙂  So I’m checking into doing them on my website  www.pjhornbergerfolkart.com  or maybe a ning site.  Tried that before but it took up lots and lots of time.  Any ideas?  How can I do this on a budget?

I haven’t been showing any current art I’ve done lately.  Don’t think I haven’t been working.  I’ve got some biz ideas I’m working on… when I get those ready to show,  I’ll show new art at the same time.  Sounds so misterious…. LOL

a little more doodles/zentangles…

Finished this one, not sure how I’ll do the other page.   I used a Faber-Castell Pitt Artist pen/brush tip I get them at www.jerrysartarama.com.  Not expensive for how long they last….. if you put the cap back on EVERY time you use it.  Amazes me how lots of people refuse to do that.  If you can’t remember… hold the darn cap in the hand you’re not drawing with.  That’ll make it impossible to forget!  tadah!

sorry about the earlier mistake I made on the Faber-Castell Pitt pen….  Derwent makes water color pencils…  really good ones,   but not Pitt Pens.  duh….

See,  what did I tell ya?  It looks great doodling/zentangling on a throw away book.  I love the look….  Note book paper works great too.  Love all those lines when you’re finished.  Adds something to it.

Now I think I’ll work on an altered page….  Have a creative day!  You CAN doodle…. ART HAS NO RULES… don’t be letting anybody tell ya different.  LOL

doodles… zentangles…

Finally have enough light in my bedroom to do some altered pages/doodling while watching TV.  These aren’t fancy,  but it’ll give you an idea of how to get started.  I did 2 videos of how to start a Zentangle.  They’re on YouTube.  You can find a link to them on my link page!  Along with some great blogs & websites.  When you have time,  check them out.

Yes,  that’s a lot of creative spelling. LOL  I used pens and markers on this.  The paper is lousy, but for playing… it’ll do.   On this,  I did the text first,  then started filling in.  Rules do NOT apply to this.  Whatever thrills YOU is the right way to do it.

This is a text book I found at the Thrift store for $2.  It has great  paper, not shiny.  I glue everything in it… Last night I decided it would be fun to doodle in it.  I’ve done this before,  drawing over text or a written letter.  This book is so much larger, so  it shows how the background makes shadows… designs.  I love the look.

This is a book they would have thrown away,  so I’m not destroying anything but dust mites.  LOL  If you look back or do a search on my blog,  you can see altered pages I’ve done in the past.  I hope to be doing more of those,  so check back often…. or sign up to follow my blog.

embellish….

Got all kinds of info on my trip to Houston.  Doing books about the crazies in my head is looking better and better… outta one eye.   LOL   Seems I have a program that should work,  so tomorrow me and my gown are going to dance with the computer all day.   And probably the next day….  until I conquer this!

Really,  really  wanna do several books.  So keep your fingers crossed for me.  Got some great info from a friend’s daughter.  It’s so nice to have friends with smart adult children vs.  those that their children are in jail…. I’m not naming names… but you shoulda said  “no”  a couple of times.  🙂   Kidding of course.   Their kid has been outta jail for almost a year now.  Doing real well working at that hamburger joint.  No I can’t tell ya which one.  I think that’s against the law or somethin’.   Not that many folks have gotten sick… or real sick… really.

You do realize I embellish some stories for greater impact… or drama… or a little color… or the moon is full.  I do love a full moon.  🙂    xo
