Art journal page with Doodles

altered page

I’ll admit it… I just had to do some blue behind those clouds.  For the clouds I used a fat Faber-Castell soft grey marker.  Wish I had a lot of those.  Super to color with.  I doodled in the white space around the pictures.  Fun to do.

Almost forgot… I used a brush pen… another Faber-Castelle pen for the doodles.  Love that brand of pen.  Have you started your art journal yet?  No?  Get busy.  You’re gonna love it.

1st step in an altered page…

This one needs doodles,  I think.  Gesso and medium over the B&W photos give it a different look.  I think I’ll work on this one tonight.  Hope I can show it to you tomorrow.

Art Journal using an old book

Not too pretty, huh?  LOL   But there’s always hope.  Not each and every one is going to be your best… so get use to that idea.  🙂  I started with an B&W book page,   stamped the swirls,  glued on a face from a magazine,  thought it needed a little hot pink.  Also thought she’d look good green. 🙂

altered book pages….

Did these last night… well, except the paint.  I do that in the studio.  Painting in the middle of the bed can be a scary thing. 🙂  I watched TV and did the pen and marker stuff.  I’m having pen withdrawal… want to buy more…. I always want more pens.

My fav is the cat… or the one with the tree.  Didn’t see the tree?  The second one?  Love that tree.  It’s cool to use an old book that has B&W photos,  then use some paint color… then the markers and pens.  Think I’ll try a B&W without color… with some doodling….  I love to do art in my head.  You can do it…. give it a try.

You start by relaxing your mind,  getting a picture of what you’re working with,  then imagine different ways of doing it.  Paint first?  What color?  How much?  Where?  Can you see it?  If you can’t… go to another idea… draw what with your pen?  It’s kinda like day dreaming.  No pressure… you don’t need all the answers… just the ideas.  You’ll work out the rest when you’re actually working on it.  I do this a lot when I can’t sleep.  I call it ‘doing art in my head’.  LOL

And don’t even tell me you can’t do it.  That’s baloney.  Nobody gets it right the first time around.  If you say you can’t,  how can you?  Ya just shut the door.  Excuse me.  That doesn’t work with anything.  It’s not brain surgery… no rules.  If you’d allow yourself to succeed… you can’t fail.  Yes,  it’s that easy.  Now give it a try… and another try.  Until you find how it works for you.  Nope,  you don’t need to do it exactly like PJ.  Do it your way.  As a friend says… own it. LOL

altered pages with Doodles

I just love big pictures.  LOL  Makes my glasses work better.  These are pages I did last year,  I think.  I was really into shiny pens…. okay,  I still am.  It’s just that they don’t photograph so good.  Aw,  who cares…. you’re smart,  you’ll figure it out.

The background is acrylics painted over a book page.  Then I paint the shapes in.  As you can see,  I love words, phrases.  Then I doodle all around ’em.  You can’t imagine how long you can spend on one small page…. but it’s not important to finish it right that minute.  If you get stuck,  go to the next one.  I have several of these books going at one time.

I think I’ll be calling it doodles,  doodling, scribbles, or scribbling from now on.  That couple, can’t remember their name… they say they “invented”  zentangles  and have registered the name.  Now I think they’re “certifying instructors”.   It all sounds way too important for me.  I’ve been doodling all my life on anything that didn’t crawl off.  I musta been having a vision cause they just invented it a couple of years ago.  LMAO!!!!!  I know,  I’m being bad.  🙂    Can’t help it… it’s Wednesday.  🙂

Speaking of Wednesday…. Justified    comes on tonight on FX.   Rayland Gibbons is the main character.  This may be love…  he can wear a hat.   The writers are very good,  plus whoever is directing lets the actors do their thing,  cause they’re all really good.  Great one liners,  great timing.  It’s a  fun only because  of some of the characters,  not because it’s suppose to be a comedy.

Ya’ll have a good day.  Have a creative day.  xo

altered page….

Worked on this page today.  I used lots of different pens.  Writing over bumpy painted pages is not going to be perfection.  Ya just hope your zig-zags don’t show up too much. 🙂

Have a nice night…. I think I’ll make a homemade pizza for supper…  it would make me very happy if someone snuck in and did it for me… but I just don’t think that’s gonna happen. LOL  I can always dream….

altered pages…

These I did in an altered book that I started.  I was going to do sayings, with doodling/zentangles.  Put it to the side,  to work on something else.  Just dug it out,  and remembered how much fun it was.  It doesn’t show in the photos,  but some of the zentangles are with metallic pens.  Then some glitter pens.  Maybe I should do a tutorial on how to do this.  I forgot the cover.  That’s the best part…

This is my favorite way to do a cover.  Takes forever,  but when I’m done,  I’m always happy with it.  Do you have any favorite sayings?  I make up some, borrow others.

Pens I used: Crown Hi-Jell Roller metallic  ~  Uniball Signo glitter  ~  Sakura Glaze  ~  Zig Opague Writer  ~  Zig Writer  ~  and my favorite Uniball-Signo 207

Places I buy pens:  www.jerrysartarama.com   www.jetpens.com  www.dickblick.com

I store my good pens laying down.  They last longer.  The Crown Hi-Jell is less than a dollar,  and  will write over paint like crazy.  I love the Signo 207 for zentangles.  I found medium refills in black at Staples.  www.staples.com might have them.   Pens are very addictive.  I think they multiply.  I probably neeeed some new ones.  xoxoxo
