folk art zinnia painting….

Yes,  I finally finished a painting.  The varnish is almost dry…  I can never wait,  gotta photograph it NOW!  I love to paint zinnias… some call them ol’maids.  Must be because they come in so many different colors.  Love the detail of the petals.

The canvas was covered in tissue paper,  gessoed,  then painted with acrylics.  Varnished.  This will be on my website for sale in a few minutes…. right after my nap.  🙂   I can’t help it!  R coughed all night,  I woke up way too early,  Herbert was in this tight little ball under my last rib….  see,  I do need a nap. 🙂  A big fat nap.  Herbert’s eyeing the bed right now.   He thinks he needs one too…..  darn Chihuahuas….

Forget the nap… the neighbor decided to weedeat/blow leaves.  So on to putting the zinnia painting on www.pjhornbergerfolkart.com.  Not going to happen today.  Adobe flash something or other is gone.  That’s ’cause of my computer trouble a couple of weeks ago.

So!  The painting is 18 x 24  ready to hang.  If you’re interested,  email me at pj@pjhornberger.com for all the details.  Have a good day! xo

WIP folk art primitive painting…

This is all out of order, confusing, crazy making…. so get a sip of eggnog and follow along.

This didn’t work for me… if I touched one,  they all came flying at me…

This works for me.  I pull it out and there’s everybody waiting for me. 🙂  Don’t ya just love my floor… even when it’s dirty it’s fun.

This one works.  I can read the label,  know what I’m using…. or that’s what I’m thinking right now…. 🙂

This is what I’m working on…  It’s going to be a really cloudy day,  don’t ya think?  🙂   I love big fluffy clouds.  Hope to get more done on this today.  These can be slow to do,  because I love lots of detail.   We shall see…   Have a happy day. xo PJ

folk art, primitive paintings

As you can see,  I’ve been painting like crazy.  Got all of these new primitive paintings finished today.  Couldn’t wait to show somebody what I’ve been doing.  Of coarse  Abe is my favorite… he took forever.

All the details will be on

Thanks for looking!

folk art paintings…

I can’t wait to show you my new folk art painting!  I’d be showing you right now but it won’t get dry fast enough.  I painted Lincoln!  He looks kinda young,  but R swears it looks like Lincoln.  Wait until you see what I did to the canvas.  It’s wild!

Also I’ve got 2 barn paintings working,  and 2 folk art/primitive painting goings.  Humidity is high,  gotta turn on the dehumidifier.  Forgot to do that.  I’ll be right back….

Now we’re cooking.  Hopefully that’ll suck all the moisture out,  and I can paint again.

Got a big Turkey Day planned?  Know what you’re thankful for?  My list is long.  I hope you’re with people who love you tomorrow,  and everyday.  God bless… xo

canvas, paint, artists

Just got back from Houston.  Time for a road trip.  Cloudy, cool,  everyone driving nice.  Treated myself to lunch.  Had to go by Jerry’s Artarama.  My favorite art store.  They’re always friendly and helpful.  Got stuff I didn’t need,  but had to have.  🙂   Met another artist on the paint isle.  He does cool work,  just getting back to his art,  and so excited.  I love to see that.  Enthusiasm is contagious.  Especially creative enthusiasm.

Most of my friends here aren’t artists.  A few are nice enough to pretend they understand what I’m talking about.  They save my life.  Then there’s the others that are totally not interested,  don’t mind telling you they’re not.  Did I say they were friends?  Maybe I need to look that word up.  LOL!   Let’s be kind and say they have a lot of interest in what they do….

So,  when I run into another artist in the art store,  where ever,  it’s a treat to get to talk art/art supplies/what paint they use/what they’re into now, etc..  A big treat.   So this week I’ve had two treats.  Marla,  a cool artist that I met at a show recently called.  We talked art forever.  She’s so much fun.  I’m hoping after the first of the year we can do an online show together.  Got my fingers crossed.

So I came home with a creative spurt,  new paint to try,  a few more canvases.  And coming home I came up with new ideas for videos.  I want to put them on www.pjhornbergerfolkart.com.  I’ll be checking on that.

Tomorrow I’ll be open in the gallery with bells on!  Come by and see what’s going on!   Last year I was busy on Wednesday before Thanksgiving.  Got my fingers crossed for tomorrow.  Plus,  I have a ton of paintings to get done.

Happy Turkey Day.  Be with people you like,  or go home early.  LOL

folk art cat paintings

‘Cats Everywhere’

Okay,  this is the painting that I promised to someone… then promptly forgot your name.  Are you on my mailing list?  You’re a friend of a friend,  so you have to tell me who that friend is. 🙂  LOL  Makes total sense to me.  You have to let me know all of this very fast,  cause by next week I won’t know what you’re talking about.  But I do want your money… so hurry up. 🙂

‘Queen Shirley’

This is what Shirley thinks she looks like.  I know, cause I asked her.  Believe me,  that crown is never on that straight.  She would love to reside at your glorious home…. sharing her many dreams and desires.

Have a Happy Day!

more cats…

Shirley may be controlling my mind… scary thought.  I started 2 cat paintings today.  One I had promised someone,  the other was a nightmare about Shirley.  She had truly become the Queen.  Scary thought… did I already say that?

My allergies will soon be just a bad memory… got meds that’ll kill anything… or so they promised.  Also discovered it is not a good idea to take non-drowsy meds at night.  No joke.  I was up until 4 am proving that theory… that someone kind could have shared with me.  Don’t go there… who do you know that actually reads the box?  Excuse me…  See,  my point exactly.

Okay,  I’m  making sauce with pasta tonight.  We’re redoing the kitchen,  so everything is not where it was.  It’s almost organized… I do have a vision of what it’ll be.  Not a fancy kitchen.  A cooking kitchen in an old house that needs lots of love and understanding…. and a good sense of humor.  That I have… most days. xo

probably important stuff…

How do you really tell if it’s a cold or allergies?  I get it confused.  Is it allergies when your nose falls off,  and a cold when one eye pops out… or is that a sinus headache? How about one ear sounding like Big Ben Booming?   I can never get this stuff right.  Medical care plus insurance or lack there of…. is a whole new ball game.  Ya gotta know everything and what year it happened and who were you dating… and did you have a cat or dog?   And how much meat do you eat?   And that junk about if you stop smoking,  after so long it’s like you never ever smoked.  Ha!  Just guess what they ask you FIRST if you cough the least little bit.  YOU SMOKED!  You smoked in THIS life time?  How could you?  My Lord, you’ve probably got everything and it’s YOUR fault.  Did you smoke with friends… or alone?  Not sure where they’re going with that one.  I just tell ’em it was dark,  so I’m not sure.

On the last visit to the family Dr.  I tried to get some info outta him.  Asked him what the itchy stuff is on my face.  He said he didn’t know.  What?  An honest Doctor?  A  male  Dr. that doesn’t know EVERYTHING?  This is a scary new thing.  Are you sure?  He said,  Yes,  I have no idea what it is.   Quickly I pinched myself and checked my pulse.   I’ve had at least 5 or more non medical people diagnosis it in the grocery store without being asked.  I thought the stock boy had the best advice.

Now let’s get it straight here… you can’t see it from 10 ft. away.  It’s not some horrid growing thing that I could star in a horror movie with.  So don’t be staring… it’s rude.  The point is…. I have an honest Doctor.  Amazing.

Okay,  I’m announcing it here and now.  I’m going to paint the washroom polka dot.  Not sure what color of polka dots yet.  It’s a tiny room,  no natural light.  I have the darkest house.  So it’ll be screaming for sure.  Try to control yourself,  I know you’re thrilled…

zentangle orb

Got one more to do.  The largest one.  Then I think I’m done for a while.  I’ve enjoyed doing these.  I have a video on how to start a zentangle on YouTube.

devil and folk art…

The Devil made me do it!

When I did these on board,  I called them talking boards.  Now they’re ‘talking canvases’.   I write it, sculpt it, paint it, and giggle.

All those details… measurements, price, etc.  will be on

PJHornbergerFolkArt.com

later today….

What are ya’ll having for supper?  We’re having pinto beans, cornbread,  and corn relish.  Now I’m hungry for sure. xo

collecting folk art…

Collecting can be fun.  If you keep it under control.  A friend once said,  “keep the best,  get rid of the rest”.   That’s good advice.  Just because it’s a ‘so & so’  doesn’t mean you have to add it to your collection.  The price shouldn’t be the reason you have it in your collection.  Cheap or expensive,  do you really love it, or is it just one more?   Does it add to, or take away?

The bird isn’t a collection,  just a sweet thing in my studio window.  The penny ball is a favorite folk art piece that I’ve had for years.  The pottery piece was done by a woman in her 90’s from Georgia.  I have several pottery pieces  that I like. Sold some,  because they were starting to multiply.  🙂

The old jars… been collecting them for years.  I use them  in the kitchen.  Then I started borrowing a few to put buttons in.  Then I borrowed a few more.  I love to look at buttons.  And I use them in my art.

What do you collect?  Or save?  I think ‘save’ is a safer word.  Maybe that way they won’t multiply… xo

adopt a green cat?

Want to adopt a green cat you say?  Why of coarse you do,  I say.  The sweet green thing comes with his own personal yellow bird.  It’s been known to fly around the room and leave a present in the nest.  You like presents,  don’t you?  Of coarse you do.

Now,  to adopt this green kitty, there is no charge.  None.  Nada.  Just  please leave a comment.  Yes,  a comment. Right here.  No, not over there… Right here on this post.    And a promise of true love for a green cat, or any colored cat for that matter.  His pet bird is an extra plus.

I’ll be drawing the winner Sunday  the 7th… afternoonish.   Oh,  and if you mention my green kitty adoption (on my blog) on your blog, I’ll put your name in twice.   Won’t that be nice?  Yes,  I agree.

another bust…

Ezell is the best speller in the whole Flower Mound school.  Everybody knows that.  She doesn’t even  practice or study.  The spellin’ just comes to her.  She can skip rope really good too.  But don’t be tellin’ nobody about her out spittin’ the boys.  Her Mama wouldn’t like it.  She can’t help it.  She’s just a natural born good spitter.  Everybody knows that… except her Mama.

Ezell is very photogenic.  Everybody says so…

She’ll be on

www.pjhornbergerfolkart.com later today.

UMMA… me…

You’ll need to sit down for this one… I did.  To say I’m thrilled is an understatement.  I’m still pinching myself…

Long story,  shorter version… a very nice person emailed saying they had taken their Mother to UMMA… the University of Michigan Museum of Art.  Mother was here to visit from London.   Her favorite painting was mine.  My Painting.  Is that sweet or what?  Made me cry.   Wait… gotta  get my heart started again.

Nope,  I had no idea.

It was a Gift of The Daniel and Harriet Fusfeld Folk Art Collection in 2002.  I did the  painting  in 1991.  I’m hoping it’s the couple I remember.  They were very nice,  told me they collected folk art, and were from Michigan, or that neighborhood.

In the late 80’s a very nice woman bought a wood carving of mine that was going to a museum in London.  Never heard any more about it,  so never knew for sure.  But I was still thrilled.

This one is over the top.  Can you see me doing the happy dance?  Won’t be able to wipe this grin off my face for a month or two.  🙂

Thanks ya’ll for letting me brag.  I just had to tell somebody.  xo

oh my…

oh my…

some days a fella should just stay in bed…

I hope all the detail shows in the photos.  Can you tell I’m having fun?  He’ll be on the website later.  Did you know you can email about pieces you’re interested in.  Also,  if you’re on my email list,  you get to see it first.  Before it’s on the blog or website.  Kinda makes you special. 🙂

 Thanks for looking…

when pigs fly…

When Pigs Fly

This piece… well…  I’m really proud of it.  You could say  I got inspired,  had a vision,  heard voices,  or  finally decided to do art that makes me happy.  Not worry  if it will sell.  (sell = art supplies)   This piece makes me smile….  I plan on making more stuff that makes me smile,  giggle,  and get up in the morning…

So beware of flying art…

www.PJHornbergerFolkArt.com

Oh, and another thing.  I want to run an ad campaign.  You know,  to promote more good folks to buy art.   But I’m in a pinch for money…. so when you pay your bills… could you write on the back of the envelope… BUY  ART!   Believe me,  it would be a great help and I’d appreciate it so much.  🙂   You could even go out on a limb and say it’d make me really happy.  🙂

chicken portraits…

From these photos you might get the idea I’m left handed.  I paint/write with my right hand,  everything else with my left.  In the first grade Ms. Knox decided I needed to be right handed.  I think she didn’t know how to teach me to write with my left hand.  Sounds good anyway.    I forget about it, so everything tends to look to the left.  🙂   Let’s call it me waving to Ms. Knox.  🙂

I print my name on the photo,  because there’s stinkers out there that will copy your art.  Shocking,  isn’t it?  😉   So if they just have to be dishonest… they have to spend the time trying to get my name off.   A little busy work never hurt anybody.

Did I tell you I have a pet chicken?  Ethel.  I’ve had pet chickens on and off all my life.  I can’t truly be happy unless I have a pet chicken.  Yep,  I’ve had roosters too.  Ethel had a boyfriend… George.   He went to Rooster Heaven.  No,  Ethel’s not lonely… she’s too cranky to be lonely.

All the details about the chicken portraits will be on

www.PJHornbergerFolkArt.com  very soon.

here come the chickens…

WIP’s

These just hatched today… 🙂   Just a few more details,  and they’ll be lookin’ good.

So this is proof I didn’t sleep ALL day.  And proof I cleaned my dirty studio.  Actually I threw that stuff away, under sound advice from my friend Margo.  Some things just weren’t meant to be.  🙂

As soon as I get these chickens finished,  they’ll be here,  and on my website…

www.PJHornbergerFolkArt.com

With all the details.

Call a friend and remind them ya love them.  That could make a so-so day into a Great Day for your friend.  Somebody did that for me today.

Put a smile on my face.  🙂

one more time…

That looks much better… crooked,  but the color’s better,  so’s the focus.  OK,  I’m happy.  Now I’ll put it on the online folk art gallery…

www.PJHornbergerFolkArt.com

Ya’ll have a great Monday morning.  Today I’m working on Bonita’s hair,  and monsters.  And that never ending computer work…. that makes me so very happy. 😉

hearts…

Hearts everywhere… you can’t see the thin frame (deep).  I had to crop it so the photo would be right.  The frame is black,  which just sets off all the color.  Did I tell you how much I love doing hearts?  Well,  I should have.  They make me happy.  I don’t collect them,  I just enjoy doing heart art… now doesn’t that sound fun?

Right after I take a much needed nap… 🙂   I’ll be putting this baby on

www.PJHornbergerFolkArt.com

You’ll be able to see all the details and ingredients.  But I’ve just got to take that nap first…  I just love a nap…  I highly recommend one…
